Did you see the BBC news yesterday?
For me and my sister this is life changing.
I am SO excited.
Coincidently, Mark went on a pension planning course last Thursday and we were just starting to consider how we would deal with the 50/50 chance of me having HD that starts to show at 60. Mark is only three months older than me so we would both take a large hit if we pulled pensions down early. However, if we can make it to 67, we'll be masses better off than we are now. Crazy. However, seven years of HD does a lot of damage, so Mark would have wanted to take the hit and spend the time doing nice stuff with me.
Now we the prospect of choices. Treatment's not the nicest of procedures but it keeps a lot of much more horrible stuff at bay. I can see a future where I can manage my HD (if it develops) and we can still do the walking breaks and motor sport stuff that we love. I hope that I'll be able to continue playing and teaching for as long as people enjoy learning from me.
This is an immense moment.........

I thought of you when I heard a piece about this on the radio last night, what an amazing breakthrough. Best wishes.
ReplyDeleteI saw this as breaking news and immediately thought of you and your sister. What a huge breakthrough. Aren't scientists wonderful?!?
ReplyDeleteWhen I heard the news I did think of your situation and what this breakthrough means for you and your loved ones. Thank you for coming by my blog, leaving a comment and reminding me to check into yours to let you know that I'm thinking of you and wishing you all the best.
ReplyDeleteI thought of you when I heard this on the news and read about it in the newspaper this morning, what a wonderful breakthrough this is:)
ReplyDeleteWow, I hadn't heard this news, what a breakthrough. It's amazing how far science has come.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard this either, but it is wonderful news!
ReplyDeleteIt is brilliant news, I hope the new treatments can begin soon for those who need to benefit from it.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard this news either but what amazing news for you and your sister. May this add to the joy of Christmas for you. Thank you for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteThis is a remarkable break through that I hope will help those affected. Sending you smiles and sunny thoughts from California! Hugs, Pat
ReplyDeleteIt's an amazing breakthrough. I was listening to radio2 and Jeremy Vine had the research doctor on explaining things. Brilliant. I would like to say regardless of any health issues I would opt to take my pension as soon as. I would rather live on less than have the daily slog of working.
ReplyDeleteOK, I'm not exactly with you and what you're talking about, but if you can send me an email so I understand, then I'll be able to comment more sensibly. We've a much different pension system over here & they have just brought in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), that I've spoken of in a few blog posts. I've an intellectually disabled brother whom I look after long distance & the new scheme should make things easier with more assistance, but oh, the red tape.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear things may be easier for you in the long run. Take care.
I saw that on our local news this morning. It's a wonderful and amazing breakthrough. We're also trying to decide at what point we start taking Social Security. Here too, the later you start, the more you get. But some people say that, depending on your life expectancy, if you start at 62-1/2 and only live to age 80, you get the same total amount as if you start at 67. Since my mom is 85 and dh's mom is 90, but both of our father's died early of disease, it's hard to know what to do.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I saw this I thought of you. A remarkable breakthrough. X
